Description - This park is rich in its historical, natural, and recreational opportunities. The park covers 1,018 acres. The South Fork river flows through the middle of the park and is fed by many small creeks and streams. The general character of the park features the natural resources of the area in addition to its historical resources.

Known as one of the most picturesque and unique state parks in Georgia, Watson Mill Bridge contains the longest original-site covered bridge in Georgia, spanning 229 feet across the South Fork River. The bridge, more than 100 years old, is supported by a town lattice truss system held firmly together with wooden pins. At one time, Georgia had more than 200 covered bridges; today, less than 20 remain.

Attractions - The park has many nature trails that roam around the river and through the forests - there are even 12 miles of horse trails. The trails offer a lot of diversity and feature views of the river, creeks, various types of forests, wetland areas, and wildlife.

The park has 21 developed campsites. The camping area has a modern bathhouse with toilet and shower facilities. Campsites can be reserved through a central reservation center (see the "Contact Information" section for the reservation number) The park also offers 3 picnic shelters, and a 5 acre mill pond with canoe and pedal boat rental. An area behind an old power dam is a great fishing spot.

The horse trail staging area has a rest room, shower, and watering facility, camping area with electrical service and water at each site and hitching posts throughout the campground, picnic area, and private parking area.

Recreation - The park is an ideal spot for an afternoon picnic or an overnight stay at the campground. Nature trails and new hiking/horse trails allow visitors to take in the scenery by walking, hiking, biking, on horseback, or canoeing.

Climate - Georgia generally experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter.

Location - This park is in the Piedmont region of Georgia, about 20 miles east of Athens. It can be found 3 miles south of Comer off Georgia Hwy. 22.
